Having a dog is one of the greatest joys in life. When I get home, the first thing I am greeted to is the wagging tail and gleeful grunt of my best friend: my dog, Luis. He’s my boy. I love spending time with him. We take long walks through the yard, venture through the woods, swim in the creek, and do pretty much anything you could think of outside at home. We, luckily, have many opportunities to spend time together away from home at the many dog-friendly destinations in the Dan River Region.

Reidsville NC Chamber of Commerce / Rockingham County, NC

Being a member of The Reidsville NC Chamber of Commerce gives us great pride.  We have been serving the people of Rockingham County for 25 years.  Shopping and supporting local businesses is how we have survived in this community for many years and we believe that we have a huge family at the Family Vet.  Support your Chamber as they are our strongest advocate.

Haw River State Park is a beautiful place to get away from it all in the northwest corner of Rockingham County.  It is a peaceful place to go with your dog and the Summit Center is a smaller venue that is great for conferences of 10 -180 people.

Lake Reidsville is a great recreation center that is convenient to everyone.  The disc golf course is played like traditional golf, except you throw a disc into a metal basket.  It is incredibly fun and anyone can play. The amphitheater will often have events in the summer time and the Independence Day celebration is a day of fun for the whole family.  The lake is open all year round and great for boating and Skiing.  Boats, kayaks and canoes can be rented as well.  Check out the camping facilities here.

Duck hunting and fishing are also available, but be sure to be in season and have the right permits!

Fishing tournaments attract many fisherman and there is a kids fishing derby as well.  There are many trails for biking and hiking and bird watching is a popular hobby.  You may see Golden finches, Prairie Wobbles, Yellow Breasted Chat, Indigo Bunting and even Great Blue Heron.

Rockingham County has plenty of places to explore.  The multiple lakes and rivers offer endless fun for outdoor enthusiasts.  There are countless miles of walking trails, and golf. My gosh!  Check out the golf courses.

The county is also home to many vineyards and wineries.  The county has a long agricultural history and the vineyards and wineries are a recent evolution of the strong connection to the land.

The Chinqua-Penn Trail is a beautiful walking trail that takes you through the woods behind the Chinqua-Penn plantation and is a wonderful day trip.  The Estate itself is now private, but was previously open to the public for tour and I must admit it is magnificent.  To imagine yourself back in the 1930’s living on this farm is just incredible.  After walking through the shady cool forest around the fish pond, you finish the loop through a cow pasture getting a close up view of the Angus cattle.

You gotta do it!  Not everywhere can you go to an old fashioned drive-in movie.  The Eden Drive-In is an experience that you must add to your bucket list.

Check out the shopping  in Reidsville and Rockingham County.  There are so many places to explore and the wealth of local artisans and independent store owners makes for a unique experience.

If you would like to know more about the rich heritage of Rockingham NC, you can access it at the digital exhibit.  The county is one of the first to be settled in the “new world” and has a rich heritage from the Native Americans, the settlers and the Civil War.

In Henry County, Martinsville is the place to go for shopping, and dining.  Martinsville has been the heart of Henry count from the beginning in the Revolutionary War era and through the big boom of the tobacco industry and then the furniture industry.  Martinsville continues to reinvent itself as it moves toward the future and has a rich architectural history.
